Who We Are

I’m Nathan Kerr, and I founded North Shore Tutors in 2022 after nearly a decade in the tutoring industry. Across one-on-one tutoring, small-group programs, online tutoring, and teaching in primary, high school, and tertiary settings (including the University of Sydney), I kept seeing the same problem: families needed real support to complement the education system, but the industry often lacked consistent quality standards.

North Shore Tutors was built to be a higher-standard tutoring service for Sydney—with a focus on personalised tutoring that actually matches the student. Tutoring should do more than “cover content”: it should build understanding, confidence, and momentum. That’s why our approach starts with a detailed pairing process. We listen carefully to your goals, your child’s learning style, school context, and personality—then match you with a tutor who fits.

Our tutors are selected for both results and character. They’re supported with formal training and tutoring certification, a growing bank of high-quality resources drawn from dozens of Sydney schools, and a clear expectation that rapport comes first. When students feel understood, they participate more, take risks, and learn faster—and that’s where meaningful progress happens.

Since launching, we’ve supported over 1,000 parents across Sydney, helping students strengthen core skills, improve assessment performance, and develop the study habits that last well beyond the next exam. If you’re looking for high-quality tutoring in Sydney—with a team that takes matching, training, and tailored support seriously—you’re in the right place.

What Sets us Apart

What truly sets North Shore Tutors apart is the system behind every session. We don’t just “find a tutor” — we develop them. Every tutor completes formal training and tutor certification to ensure they can teach effectively (not just know the content), communicate clearly, and build confidence and rapport with students.

Our tutors are supported with a huge, ever-growing database of high-quality resources, lesson materials, and practice questions, so families aren’t relying on whatever a tutor happens to have on hand. This also means sessions stay structured, efficient, and aligned to the student’s goals — whether that’s building foundational skills, lifting grades, or preparing for exams.

Beyond onboarding, we provide ongoing guidance and support to tutors so quality stays consistent over time. Tutors aren’t left to figure things out alone, they have clear expectations, proven session structures, and access to help whenever they need it. The result is a more reliable experience for parents and a higher standard of tutoring for students.
